Back Pain Treatment

Low back pain is a very common condition and one of the most frequently seen conditions at Burton Physiotherapy. The majority of the population will experience some form of lower back pain during their lifetime.

We have extensive experience in treating lower back pain and have developed very effective treatment protocols that take a global approach to each individual, rather than just treating the lower back in isolation. Types and causes of lower back pain can include mechanical and muscular low back pain often from repetitive strain, osteoarthritis or degenerative and age related changes in the lumbar spine, and inflammatory spinal conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis.

Low back pain associated with nerve related conditions are also common, such as radiculopathies (sciatica) which can cause leg pain, numbness and weakness due to nerve irritation or compression, due to a disc bulge, joint irritation or degenerative changes in the lumbar spine.

Physiotherapy can be very effective for treating all types of lower back pain and preventing its recurrence through a combination of hands-on treatment for pain relief and strengthening and mobility exercises to increase the resilience of the lower back to repetitive strain.
